Day 31 - Gift Wrapping

Welcome back, friends! This month we're working on 31 handmade gifts for everyone on your list. You can find links to the full series here.

We made it to the last day! And it's only like halfway through November... so... yeah. It's been fun, but I think I'll be passing next year. I may still do a series if something tickles my fancy, but it will have to be something less stressful and more at my own pace. A.k.a. the pace where taking care of two little boys comes first. But I guess that's getting ahead of myself, so let's go ahead and wrap this baby up with an easy gift wrapping idea!

I still love my gift wrapping from two years ago when I used brown paper, newspaper, salt dough gift tags, and ribbons (you can read more about it here) so I decided to go back that direction this year.

But this time I wanted something even faster & easier. And what do I grab when I'm in a hurry? gift bags! So that's what I focused on this year.

Easy to decorate, easy to pack, and they come in lots of sizes for whatever you're gifting!

And I think they're going to be super cute under the tree!

Here's all you need:

  • red ink pad
  • stamp
  • brown paper bags, boxes, or wrapping paper
  • ribbon
  • hole puncher

Start by stamping on the front side of the bag about halfway down. I picked owls because I'll be able to use them year round for other gifts too!

But I also pulled out a couple more Christmassy stamps to try out (those two were $1 each at Michaels after Christmas last year).

Go ahead and put the gift in the bag, then fold the top flap down (but make sure you don't fold it too far or it will cover your stamp). Use a hole puncher to punch two holes through all the layers about 1 - 1.5" apart (you can experiment with a farther/shorter distance and different ribbon widths to see what you like best).

Thread a piece of ribbon through both holes from front to back.

Cross the tails in back and bring them back to the front through the opposite holes. Trim the ends nice and neat and you're done!

You can totally change the look by using different stamps, inks, and ribbons. Or even by using white or colored bags! And they can work for any event just by switching up the stamps. And of course there are tons of sizes of bags and you can even stamp on plain brown wrapping paper for larger gifts!

These small bags came from Hobby Lobby (during a 1/2 off sale) and it was something like $1.50 for 10 bags. These are perfect for the smaller gifts like jewelry and keychains, or even a small spice rub or car mat!

I also tried these regular lunch sacks from Dollar Tree. They don't turn out as pretty because they're kind of wrinkly, but it was $1 for a ton of them so they would be great if your budget is tight! And they work for bigger gifts like the hair gift set.

I also tried out these boxes from Hobby Lobby that turned out super cute!

I love the look of these and they're nice and sturdy. They would be great to hand out to neighbors or co-workers!

And they're a great size for things like bibs and burp cloths.

The prices here can vary a lot based on what size bags you get and such, but this is about what my gift wrapping cost this year:

$1.50 - pack of 10 small bags (50% off)
$1.00 - huge pack of lunch bags
$2.00 - pack of boxes (50% off)
$1.00 - roll of brown packing paper
$1.00 - red stamp pad
$3.50 - stamp (50% off)
$0.00 - ribbon (I recycled some I pulled off of presents last year. Keeping it classy.)

Total: $10.00

Keep in mind the stamp can be used over and over, and I think I'll have a bunch of wrapping supplies left over when I'm done! And be sure to keep your eyes open for cheap stamps on clearance after Christmas. Next year you'll be glad you did!

Thanks for holding on with me through the series, guys! I mentioned this way back at the beginning, but I'm planning to have a giveaway with the extra gifts I won't be using myself so stick around! Hopefully by next week I'll have my Christmas lists figured out and know what will be up for grabs.

In the meantime, what is your favorite way to wrap gifts? Are you pretty consistent from year to year or do you like to mix things up?
