This desk has a super simple design with clean lines that's great for keeping your space light and airy. And it's easy to adjust the height to fit your needs by changing the length of the legs!

Shopping List:
1  -  2x2  @  8'
1  -  2x2  @  6'
1  -  3/4" plywood  @  36 x 20"
Kreg Jig
2 1/2" pocket hole screws
2" wood screws
wood glue
sandpaper and finishing supplies

Dimensions: 36" wide x 20" deep x 14 1/4" high

Measure twice, cut once (seriously, though). Use glue in every step (be careful to clean up any drip, because they will mess up your finish at the end!). Read through all the instructions before you begin. Use 1 1/4" screws unless otherwise indicated. Pre-drill and countersink all your screws. Be safe, have fun, and let me know if you have any questions! Please note I have not built from these plans myself (you might be the first!), so double check everything as you go.

Cut list:
(A)  4  -  2x2  @  13 1/2"  (legs)
(B)  2  -  2x2  @  33"  (front/back trim)
(C)  3  -  2x2  @  17"  (side trim/support)
(D)  1  -  plywood  @  36 x 20"

Drill pocket holes in the ends of the front/back boards (B). Attach a leg (A) to each end using the pocket hole screws. Make sure the legs are flush with the top of the front/back board. No Kreg Jig? Drill through the outside of the leg, into the end of the front/back board with 2" wood screws.

Drill pocket holes in the ends of each side/support board (C). Use these to connect the two front/back leg sections you just built with pocket hole screws. One should be flush with each end of the table, and the third should be centered (roughly) in between. They should all be flush with the top of the frame. No Kreg Jig? Drill through the front/back of the legs into the ends of the side boards, and through the front/back trim in to the ends of the center support board with 2" wood screws.

Attach the top by drilling up through the frame (go through all the front/back and side/support boards) and into the top board (D) with 2" wood screws. Be careful not to drill all the way through the top! The top should sit flush with all the sides of the table.

To finish, fill any holes with wood filler then sand everything down really well. This is the most important step for a professional finish! Start with a rough sand paper, then go over everything with a medium paper, then again with a fine paper. Once it's super smooth, finish it with whatever paint or stain and sealer you like. I'm loving the two-tone look of white cabinets with a stained top!

This little table is a great chance to add a color pop to your work space! Have fun with it!

That's it! Come back tomorrow for another DIY desk plan, and check out the full series here!

  1. You have 30" x 20" for the plywood, but it should be 36" x 20"
