I'm not putting any fancy gift guides together this year (you can check out my minimalist gift guide for kids and my gift guide archive if you want some more specific ideas from years past), but I did want to put up a quick post with a few of the boys' tried-and-true favorite things. As you may know, we have a house full of boys. And these are the things that are loved and played with day after day. So, if you're shopping for boys, this might be a good place to start.
BUT... I also can't stress enough just how much I need to not bring extra junk into our home. So, while I wholeheartedly recommend any of these items for a boy, I strongly discourage you from buying a bunch of stuff you don't need. If you need a gift, pick one thing (or try the four-gift system we use). They'll have a great Christmas and your cleaning-it-up-for-the-next-ten-years self will thank you.
And in case no one has told you: you can probably find a lot of these things second hand for much cheaper. It's okay to give your kids second hand gifts, guys. Last year I got a whole bin of Imaginext guys for the same price as single set at the store. You can get way better gifts and your kids won't care where they came from.
Indoors:
- magnetic tiles
- legos
- mega wedges and a kozy couch ($$$ but they have been worth every penny!)
- matchbox cars with a blu track
- imaginext guys (you don't need the big set ups, they'll use the guys with a chair or anything as their fort)
- card games
- board games
- build a rock wall!
Outdoors:
- rollerblades
- bows and arrows
- bikes
- scooters
- basket ball hoop
- hockey sticks
- wiffleball
- roller coaster (we bought one second-hand years ago and it's still a favorite!)
- ninja slackline
Books:
- The Hobbit Illustrated
- Green Ember Series
- Wingfeather Series
- Growly Series
- Old school Berenstain Bears
- Illustrated Animal Encyclopedia
- Fishing Chronicles
- One Frog Too Many
- The Giant Jam Sandwich
Those are a few favorites off the top of my head! I'll update it if I think of anything else!
