We are not in yard sale season yet, but a local church had it's huge annual rummage sale last weekend! I went by on Thursday when it started to see all they had to offer, and let me tell you, it was huge. I knew things would be marked down on Saturday so at first I only bought a few things that I really wanted and was willing to pay full price for. I don't have pictures of these, but they were:

$4.00 - garden hose reel thingy

$5.00 - 5 yards of fabric

Then Saturday morning I hopped back over to check out the super savings. And they were pretty super! There deal was  $5 for whatever you could stuff in a box, so my husband grabbed the biggest one he could find and we loaded it up. Here's what we got for our $5:

 2 bags - I love bags. And the flower one makes me really happy.

  3 books for Baby B. I think he likes them.

 An ice cream maker. I almost bought this Thursday to replace my old one that bit the dust. But when it was still there Saturday I was really glad I didn't pay the full $7 for it before!

A glass jar. 

 Yards and yards of fabric. Knits, wovens, prints, solids, interfacings, all kinds of goodies!

I'd say it was pretty successful for the first yard sale of the year. Here's hoping for more to follow! Have you had any yard sales in your area yet? Are you itching to do some yard sale shopping?

Change of Plans... Again

We made another Craig's List purchase last week. One that is causing us to once again tweak our kitchen layout. But it will be so. totally. worth it. Yep, we bought a dishwasher. Stainless steel, less than a year old, and in like new condition! We don't have it hooked up yet because we have to run water lines and shuffle some cabinets around, but we are already oh-so excited!

I don't know about you, but I feel like I spend way to much time doing dishes that I could spend doing other things! So I can't wait to get this baby running and play with my actual baby while it scrubs the dishes for me. :)

P.S. I think I'm going to repaint the kitchen. Probably green. I can't help it.

Hello Springtime!

This little boy LOVES to be outside. He also loved it when he was teeny tiny, but then got stuck indoors for most of the winter. But these last few summer-like days have been spent in the great outdoors, and he just might be in heaven.

 It took him a few minutes to decide that he liked crawling in the grass, but then he was unstoppable! And it turns out he really likes dirt.

While he was crawling around wreaking havoc on my plants and anything else he could reach, I used the opportunity to freshen up the patio a little. I gave it a good sweeping and brought the pillows out of "storage" (aka a pile on top of the grill). The husband also took the grill out of it's "protective covering" (aka Mount Patio Pillows), cleaned it up, and proceeded to grill us a delicious dinner! I also washed the pillow cases for the throw pillows. And then I rearranged things, because that's how I roll.

Baby B took a moment to help me. 

"This pillow is better here, mom!"

I just split up the sectional (see how we built the sectional here) a little to give better flow to the yard. Is that silly on a patio? Maybe, but it's still fun. :)

I think it makes the space more conversational and opens it up to the yard. Plus we could slide a folding table in between the benches when we cook out, which we've done 3 times in the last week!

I haven't dug out the seat cushions yet, but I actually kind of like the look of this. Although it isn't good for napping. :)

 Who knows if it will even stay this way long? So far I love it, but once we use it some more I'll know if it is really functional for us or not.  What do you think? Better or worse than before?

And that's what Baby B and I have been up to, along with plenty of romping, ball rolling, and trips to the park. Just enjoying those blue skies and these blue eyes!

Curtain Master

Here is the final post in a week full of curtains. You can see my tips for hanging curtain rods here, and for making your own curtains with drop cloths here. Today is just another example of homemade curtains, this time in my master bedroom. After living here a year and a half we finally have curtains up and it makes such a difference!

We started by putting up a curtain rod, just like in the office. I already love the contrast of the dark hardware against the light walls.

For the actual curtains I had a few thrift store sheet to choose from. I decided on a soft, pretty floral one that I bought for $3, which is great for a set of curtains! I cut it in half and hemmed just like I did with the office curtains. Then clipped it up with my ring clips. It turned out so pretty and was a really easy way to get unique curtains.

Then I slid the furniture back into place to finish it off. And wowza, it really looks more like home now!

 

Although I think I'll go with the rocker here instead. But a slip cover may be in order. :)

Here is the best shot I have of the color of the curtains. You can also see how well they work together with the colors of the walls and wood. 

And that's all I have for our last curtains day. Just a little inspiration to keep your eyes open because you never know what could be your perfect curtains!

Final thought for today - I got this new toy on craigslist, and I am so. excited. Now, who wants to thread it for me and show me how to use it? :) I'm thinking about making my own cloth diaper once I get it running!
