Hand-painted Wooden Ornaments (& Sister Craft Night)

My sister-in-law and I have craft nights now and then, and one of my favorite projects last year had a fun Christmas flair. We hand-painted wooden ornaments for our Christmas trees!

I highly recommend this tradition. One of my favorite things about moving to Indiana is having my SIL in town for fun things like craft night, and our Christmas projects were the best. We had a lot of fun with this project, and it was easy to complete in an evening. It's also a great project for a group because you can all paint together, but decorate them to your own taste.

This was a spur of the moment craft because my SIL spotted wooden ornaments on sale at Michaels and gave me the heads up to go grab a few. I bought a variety of shapes and sizes, plus a few extra for the kids to paint later.

On craft night we usually meet at my place for dinner with our families (I do something super easy like chili in the crock pot), then it's craft time! The guys keep the kids busy in the living room while the two of us take over the whole table with our crafting. Crafting plus no kids? It. is. amazing.

For my ornaments, I used acrylic paint to decorate my ornaments with lines, dots, and x's. I'm a little bit of a Christmas purist (no blues or purples for me) so I kept it classic with black, white, and red paint.

My SIL covered her ornaments with white chalk paint, then distressed them with fine sandaper. She also brought some little wooden nutcracker ornaments and did the same with them. They turned out so pretty! I didn't get any pics, but luckily she posted her tree on instagram.

Her house is beautiful, you should definitely give Clay & Dust a follow!

That's it for this super easy Christmas project. I can't wait to see what we make this year!

P.S. I'll leave you with this little gem from last Christmas. I found the whole nativity crew standing in a circle... around Joseph's severed hand. That was the day we moved the nativity up to the mantle.

What Christmas projects do you have planned this year?
